Parent Code of Conduct

1. My Child / Player

1a) I will not force my child to participate in sports.

1b) I will remember that children play soccer for their own enjoyment, not for mine.

1c) I will never ridicule or yell at my child for making a mistake or losing a competition.

1d) I will focus on effort and development– not on winning.

1e) I will help contribute to creating a supportive and positive environment for players, coaches, and other parents.

1f) I will bring my players to practice and games on time.

2. Match Day

2a) I will not coach or give instructions to players on the field. This includes my own child as well as other players on the team.

2b) Encourage players with cheers and positive comments only. Examples include “Well Done!” “Don’t give up!” and “You’re doing great!”.

2c) I will not speak negatively about an opposing player while on the sideline. You have no idea who is overhearing you, or who may be friends or relatives of that player’s family. Do not speak about players in any negative way. Remember, they are kids!

2d) I will update my child’s Attendance on Playmetrics for all events 1 week in advance.

2e) It is my responsibility to ensure all adults that I bring to watch my child play also abide by this code of conduct.

2f) Maintain open and respectful communication with coaches. Discuss concerns or issues privately and respectfully.

2g) I understand that I am subject to the laws of the game. I can be cautioned, reported, sent away from the ground, and suspended from attending any matches. My Team or Club can also be fined, suspended or expelled from the Competition, based on my actions.

2h) I will ensure your child is physically and mentally prepared for practices and games. I will respect medical decisions made by the coaching staff in case of injuries.

3. Respect

3a) I will encourage my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

3b) I will not abuse match officials, however much I may disagree with their decisions.

3c) I will not enter the field of play during a game unless asked to do so by the referee.

3d) I will not applaud foul play, and will not encourage our players to engage in foul play.

3e) I will not use foul or abusive language, or engage in confrontations.

3f) I will only speak to opposing parents in a complimentary fashion, or if you know them personally. No matter their behavior, how the other team or coach acts, I will be the better and more mature person.

3g) I will never question the officials’ judgment or honesty in public.

3h) I will show respect for coaches, referees, and all players, including those on opposing teams.
